Outstanding Alumni – 2016

Mr. Ronald J. Peterson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida State University (FSU).  He is also a graduate of the University of Phoenix’s Master of Business Administration program.  He has excelled in his profession and continues to give of his time and talents to the community.

Mr. Peterson currently serves as the Director of Corporate Compliance and Audit at Tampa General Hospital, Inc., a thousand-bed acute care teaching hospital.  He has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry and another 14 years of public accounting and industry experience.

His previous experience includes working in the field of public accounting with two of the big four accounting firms and a local accounting firm; where he held the position of Audit Manager.  He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Fellow of the Health Care Financial Management Association (FHFMA), Certified in Healthcare Compliance and Certified in Healthcare Privacy.

Mr. Peterson was one of the founders of the FSU Minority Business Students Association, where he served as a mentor.  He continues to be an active participant in the community.  He currently serves as Board Chair for the Tampa Bay Black Business Investment Corporation and the Conn Foundation.  His other community activities have included past President and current Secretary of the Midtown Kiwanis Club of Tampa, Coordinator of Midtown Kiwanis Club’s Terrific Kids Program, member of Greater Tampa United Way Site Committee; and Deacon, Food Pantry Coordinator and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent at his church, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (Tampa).  He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Mr. Peterson was formerly a Board member of the Enterprise Bank of Tampa; Board member and Treasurer of Tampa Crossroads, Inc.; Board member of The Divine Providence Food Bank, Inc.; member of the University of South Florida President’s Minority Advisory Committee; and President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc.

Mr. Peterson continues to give unselfishly of himself but always makes time for what he believes to be most important, family and church.  He is married to FSU alumnus Nell Cook Peterson, and they are the proud parents of Jason, Jessica, Jake and Justin.
