’12 Edition-Game One of “The State Championships” started off rocky for the ‘Noles; after a staunch defensive stand for UM’s opening drive, the first play from scrimmage resulted in a completion and fumble; the Canes capitalized, and that was followed by a shanked punt, which also resulted in points for the Canes (albeit a victory by the defense holding to a field goal).  That was followed by another turnover, but that tone of the previous defensive stands was prevalent as the ‘Noles were able to induce a turnover.  From there, the Seminoles scored the next 13 points, including a field goal on a rare “ten-second run-off at the end of half penalty preceded by timeout” rule.  After trading field goals for a 16-13 lead into the 4th quarter, the “Four Fingers” mantra showed it’s mettle outscoring the Canes 17-7 for a 30-20 final score.  Playing with the emotion of losing team and emotional leader Chris Thompson, Devonta Freeman and James Wilder, Jr. had great games, EJ Manual orchestrated smooth operation of the offense, and the defense was the night’s star with impressive performances on from all units (linemen, linebackers, and secondary).  Super effort from the special teams as Miami’s return game was thwarted by kick-offs out of the end zone, and directional punting (despite that first shank) limiting return lanes.
